Rated M is a Doha based All-Filipino local band
with different music roots from different parts of the Philippines
which at present composed of 5 male instrumestalists and 2 female
vocalists with 4 genre music influences. The band was officially
formed 7th May 2004 with the band's name stands for "Rated
Music". The band was originally an all male band the first
time it came out in the open with their first gig at the opening
ceremony of the 18th Season of the Philippine Basketball League
in Qatar at Al Wakra Sports Stadium. Part of the local marketing
trend, the talented and ever determined gentlemen has then decided
to become a show band/party band, they then recruited 2 power
vocal sisters.

The big break or unbreak - the souls of seven
has then wasted no time. After having cleaned up 30 songs, it
immediately transacted the Ramada Hotel's management for a possible
afternoon show every Friday from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at the hotel's
bar. Luckily, the band got a contract after the audition and been
given a week preparation and a 1 night pre-show appearance was
then arranged during the regular night show.

1st major setback suffered - it was the band's
fate maybe but the Friday afternoon show didn't materialize after
2 consecutive Friday shows being hampered in obtaining a local
authority permit. The hotel management then converted the slotted
time into some other gimmicks.

Hot air, suffered wounds, survivalist instincts
- low morale, wounded spirits etc...it took the band almost 3
months to take a stand again after that first fatal failure. Determined,
even without its keyboardist who's been shattered by the failed
first attempt to get into the market, the rest of the gang made
a pact to fight for survival. Hot season may seem fair and square
then.

Harvest time, summer almost over - spirited
- the remaining members then decided to put up a show after the
untiring effort of cleaning almost 60 songs with the band's first
launching and public introduction. 7th October 2004 when finally
the harvest season came to the band with their first show at Gulf
Horizon Hotel dubbed as " The Harvest Moon". Indeed,
it turned out to be a successful show with a sold out ticket sales.

adopted a twice a week practice; this time, bearing the Will of
their next show at the Mercure Grand Hotel 15th November 2004
sponsored by a newly formed Filipino organization and with their
new family member, a keyboardist replacement. Time passes so fast.
5 days before the next show, a rain of blessings poured into the
band with the hotel management unexpectedly contacted the band
of a two day appearance in the hotel's bar during the Eid Holidays
which then a 2 nights show before the 15th November scheduled

Party time
- seasons of party has finally come loaded with guts and the legacy
of 3 straight nights show, parties seem no ending with the band
loaded with bookings for the last hold months of the year. Aside
from the scheduled shows, November was then a promising month for
the band with another 3 unexpected shows; 1 at the Carrefour Supermarket
at the City Center Mall, show at Al Dana Club at the Corniche Area
with bunch of diplomat guests, then a show at Dukhan during the
Qatar Petroleum's special gathering party. |

GOD has better plans with winter slicing the tail of
hot summer air - the band's lead guitarist got his final
call with his yearly vacation then possible for 15th December
2004. A hideous silence amongst the rest of the band members then
start to grow and rumblings inside each of the remaining members'
minds and feelings rise up. Party's over huh, fellas?

Growing and very alarming tensions - party hangovers,
personal demons, little devils, sour grapings, individualism,
betrayal, plastics, rubbish and some other unknown factors, enters!
The change of the wind directions then proved brought harm for
the band with some of the air then penetrates some of the others
member's brain paralyzing their capacity of reasoning and stillness.
The band then again tasted GOD's test of survival. Maybe, "HE"
has better plans ahead, a self satisfying alibi.

26th December 2004, shows organized by contact Mr. Ibrahim (Coordinator

31st December and another unexpected call on the 30th December

Band's
Fate, maybe - question that hangs on the wall what the
future may bring. Will there be Rated - M Band when the lead guitarist
returned back from vacation 15th January 2005? How many shows there
will be on the first quarter of the next year with the band's drummer
planning to quit his job for another life's adventure March 2005?
Is there any chance that the band's determination and smooth understanding
in the midst of a dubious situation be restored? Will the devil's
spell and the outside forces be cast away inside the band? Or what
about this; maybe the Rated -M Band is just another collection of
puppets and funny clowns in town? |
